Dominica Independence
The Commonwealth of Dominica Celebrated its 31st Anniversary of Independence.

The island named Dominica by Christopher Columbus or Waitu Kubuli by our indigenous Carib people or Kairi Kairi by the Arawaks and this year 2009 Dominica adds to its history with the celebration of the 31st Anniversary of Independence.

From 23rd September - 4th November, 2009 the celebrations were in full flow showcasing Dominica's rich & unique cultural heritage with influences from African, French, Amerindian and English ancestors, with folk songs, dance & delicious creole cuisine and many held conversations in the creole dialect known as "Patois "

The staff of H.H.V.Whitchurch & Co. Ltd., local agents for the Geest Line, played its part as proud & patriotic citizens in the national observance of independence on creole day held on 30th October, 2009 dressed in elegant variations of their national wear.

The Commonwealth of Dominica gained Independence on November 3rd 1978.
