This video posted on YouTube highlights the utter devastation caused by Hurricane Maria.  Geest Line are working to bring aid to Dominica as part of the relief effort.

Due to the current and recent Hurricanes in the Caribbean please note that published schedules have changed.  Please contact the Geest Line Head Office or speak to your local agent for the latest information.

Following in the footsteps of colleague Lucy who took a 6 month sabbatical Martyn has decided it was time for his own adventure. Martyn who joined Geest Line in October 2015 as an Accounts assistant has recently been studying hard for his AAT accounts qualification and recently achieved a staggering 98% on his last assessment!

Following this achievement Martyn felt that he had earned himself a break and requested a 12-month sabbatical which was agreed without hesitation.

Martyn will be travelling to Sydney, Australia with no objective other than “Let’s see what happens!” A free-spirit attitude many here wish they could relive from their younger days!

So what does every young man need for an adventure? A survival kit of course! This was caringly put together by members of the Geest Line team, packing in all the essentials that a young man would need on his travels.

We wish Martyn well on his travels and look forward to hearing his many stories on his return to the UK next year.

After five years’ service with Geest Line travelling across the Eastern Caribbean where next for this intrepid reefer container?

Brunei of course!

The container was leased to the NAAFI and is currently being used to store much needed supplies. They say ‘Join the Military and see the world’ well this container certainly has!

The Ministry of Tourism have been running the ‘Urban Renewal Clean Up Roseau’ project since 2014, spearheaded by the Hon. Robert Tonge with the objective of a litter free and tidy Roseau. To help succeed on their daily quest the team’s tools are normally stored at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium but in May this year the space was required for the last test Match between the West Indies and Pakistan.

The call was made to Geest Line for help to store the tools in a 20ft container for the month and the request was immediately granted for such a worthy cause. The only bad news for West Indies fans was a win by Pakistan by 101 runs!

Geest Line staff entered into the spirit of raising funds for Comic Relief on ‘Red Nose Day 2017’. Exemplary culinary skills were again on show with homemade food and treats for a Teddy Bear picnic. Staff brought in their childhood ‘Teddy Bears’ (those that had teddy bears!) with the oldest teddy at the picnic nearly 60 years old! Star of the day was Geest Line’s cutest teddy Lucy Lovegrove pictured with all her friends. A total of £ 140.00 was raised on the day for charity.

NOTICE – GEEST UK IMO SOLAS VGM

Geest Line take seriously the need to ensure the safe transportation of your cargo, and to provide a safe working environment for anyone involved with handling our loaded containers both at sea and landside. Geest Line intend to be compliant to this new legislation at all ports and terminals we operate from.

Under the amended version of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) convention regulation 2 of chapter VI which mandates the Shippers responsibility to declare to the Shipping Line and/or Terminal Authorities the Verified Gross Mass (VGM) of a packed container before loading onboard a vessel effective any sailing on/after 1st July 2016.

Containers ex UK

Unless Geest Line are advised in writing by the Shipper (or their authorized representative, the person responsible for declaring the VGM) that they intend to supply the VGM direct to Geest Line, Geest Line will arrange to obtain the VGM via Method 1 at Shippers convenience, expense and risk by weighing the container on arrival at the terminal. The VGM will be obtained using calibrated lifting equipment and issued by the terminal operators (MMD) to Geest Line. The VGM will then be supplied to the Shipper (or their authorized representative) at earliest opportunity for any shipping paperwork to be corrected accordingly and requested to confirm acceptance of the VGM prior to loading to vessel.

Where discrepancies exist we will contact Shippers (or their authorized representative, the person responsible for declaring the VGM) on a case by case basis to resolve any issues.

The cost per container for this operation/administration service will be £19.50 per container. Where Shippers provide their own VGM to Geest Line this charge will be waived, however an admin/check charge will be incurred of £5.00 per unit.

No this is not the latest fad diet! – it is the amended International Maritime Organisation (IMO) legislation of the Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS) to ensure packed containers have a ‘verified weight’ prior to being loaded onto vessel. The legislation takes effect from 1st July 2016, Geest Line as a responsible carrier takes this legislation very seriously and seeks to inform and pre-advise it’s Shippers of the impending amended legislation that will effect their shipping process. Whilst each Shipper and Shipping Line will adopt it’s own procedures Geest Line stands firmly behind the rationale for this legislation and will assist it’s Shippers in anyway it can to be compliant and ensure there are no short-shipments due incorrect or unknown weights.

We plan to update Shippers further on this important subject as we gain further information from Ports, Terminals and Haulage contractors etc. in order to evaluate the most cost effective solution at the locations we operate.

In the meantime please find attached latest basic elements information issued to the trade from the World Shipping Council Click here WSC
